Hug it out
Then let go
Disney characters famously don’t release a hug until the child lets go. This would be an outstanding habit if we all followed it when hugging those we choose to. The world of meeting others would definitely slow down as the process occurred. The release of feel-good chemicals would increase. Those who really need a little more physical loving would benefit and those who need to provide a little more loving would like it also. Humans can take their own arms and embrace themselves at any time. There are great techniques for stroking the upper arms for physical relief. We have a built-in tendency to want a hug at different points in life. If you can really notice the sensations of what happens when you hug another person that you are fond of, you may become aware of some residual effect. Self-observation opens a new window into us. Acknowledging feelings without judgement helps to become aware of tension or discomfort. The extraordinary abilities of the body to get balanced go into action. The environment of our own body should be a sacred place. This level of compassion helps us tap into that inner wisdom that guides us. As a fringe benefit, hugging others with the intention of showing a welcoming into your sphere, brings acceptance of who we are also. As a motivator, think of whether you would hug Goofy on a visit to Disney. If the thought of leaning into those soft, long arms brings a smile to your face, hug someone.
What connects me?
Option #1: Do you think the practice of hugging is good?
Option #2: Can you heal your worry with a little hug?
Option #3: What can you do to feel your own love?
That’s it. After you choose the option that best describes what ingredients you are using in life, take a few minutes to describe why you chose that option and what action, if any, may come next.
