Not today
Procrastinating ahead of time
Urgency has its benefits. It gets stuff done. Unfortunately, dusting doesn’t ever feel time sensitive to me. Oddly, rearranging my books has more of a chance to get done when there are new ones to add to the bookshelf. Each task might not take too long, but one has more potential for enjoyment to me versus lowering the risk of being embarrassed by anyone making a judgement on my housekeeping. They both lighten the load that weighs life down. Laziness is not a word in my vocabulary because it is meaningless. There are always going to be legitimate reasons to do or not do everything in life. Choices. They are great at times. Sadly, the undone stuff can take up a lot of room in my psyche and once tackled, give me a boost. Life has mental tension. My decisions are part of the challenging game of seesaw that requires balance between the doing and the not to maintain some quality. When a reward is involved, the challenge increases the chances of completion. The trick is to convince my own brain of how to avoid the opposite emotion of letting my tender backside hit the ground. That definitely requires some effort. But maybe not today.
Take Five
Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.
- What are you avoiding doing right now?
- Does a list help you get stuff done?
- What place does shame have in your decisions?
- Complete something today.
- If your day feels like a seesaw, can it be fun to be at the playground?
Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
Live Alive.
