Signals can be colorful

Colorblindness

Until the age when you start driving, street signals don’t get noticed regularly. The hypervigilance that comes with a permit draws attention to all of the signs to read along the road. Sure, the ones with words take some time to read and get ignored in the beginning. The signs that most new drivers focus on are the more colorful ones. Those changing red, yellow and green signs control who is moving on the street. Getting used to the nuances involved in when to drive thru a yellow light come with experience. The green lights are our signal to move forward. And those red ones stop us in our tracks. Or they should. There are many more traffic signals in life that act exactly the same as those lights. Learning how to categorize which color each situation is takes some practice. The accidents occur when the signs are ignored. Those red lights didn’t just change quickly. They may have been yellow for a while before they got our attention. Often, too late. Misreading life’s signals can be chalked up to speeding. It can also be attributed to the mistaken feeling that the consequences won’t happen to you. As long as you aren’t colorblind to the signals life is trying to send you to circumvent traffic jams, you can squeak by some unharmed. But there is no way to tell which ones those are.

Check your driving knowledge this week. Sometimes, signals come up more frequently to get your attention. Don’t breeze on by as quickly if this happens. Review the choices below and see which one resonates with you. It does you no good to ignore the red lights.

Stop and then Go

Option #1: The same person keeps popping unexpectedly into life for attention.

Option #2: You see the yellow lights but are going to bet that they are there to help you delay handling a situation.

Option #3: You hesitate when a bright green light pops up in life.

That’s it. After you choose the option that best describes where you stand on the signals in your life, take a few minutes to describe why you chose that option and what action, if any, may come next.
