The premise of the word work is unappealing. It has that 9 to 5 association with it that eliminates choice. There is some advantage in thinking of working out as exercise if it involves some movement that allows cool gear and upbeat music. The distractions create enough energy to get to the end of the intended event. The real gold standard is finding exercise that either reduces the need to ask if it is required or reaches such an accomplishment level that it feeds whatever competitive nature is hiding inside us. A good rule of thumb is to find some type of exercise that can be done with some satisfaction for a lifetime. Along the way, there are others that can be attempted for short periods to gauge their practicality. Sports in high school or university can be sorted through to help define what may became a lasting love affair. Once there is a certain level of accomplishment, choices are easier to make. Picking up new sports is always a challenge. Ask the pickleballers about how they morphed out of playing tennis. Behind the workout routine is a foundation of why. The clearer the definition, the less drama will go into whether it has to happen on a regular basis. And keep in mind that it almost always feels better after it is done. The afterglow is that radiance that helps to keep persuasion out of the next decision to exercise. The aura should be counted as part of the workout.

Option #1: Do you think others look forward to exercising more than you?

Option #2: Can you change your definition of a workout?

Option #3: What can you do to build a better you?

That’s it. After you choose the option that best describes how you workout in life, take a few minutes to describe why you chose that option and what action, if any, may come next.
