Ordinary Anytime

Just the usual

Would you look at that

Humans don’t like to admit it but are great at accepting what happens. Think about it. In the first moment, things can be pretty shocking but if a little time goes by, becomes the new normal. The technicolor explosion that occurs in our brains when unexpected stuff rears up gets dulled by time. The actual uncertainty of life is softened, and we appear to continue on without a great deal of shock and awe. Good or not, that’s life. That does not mean that events feel easier. It just means that the human spirit acquiesces to the updated circumstances. Maybe we are all existing within some video game. The main idea to accept is that anything can happen at any time. At least that part is very certain. Whether that provides consolation of what the future holds is a whole different matter. But when embraced as a life logic, suppresses the amount of angst required of what may have automatically brought up some immediate stress by habit. The body learns how to react because we teach it how to. The conditioning seeps in over years of watchful observation at the hands of the masters around us.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. Describe what last shocked you into silence.
  2. Do you know your pre-stress signs?
  3. Describe the comfort found in responding in your usual method.
  4. Did your reaction to anything lately surprise even you?
  5. Can you persuade yourself to step back from the next scary event to check it out closely?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.

Live Alive.
