A strong shield
Be a proper knight
It takes a fearsome person to put up a good fight. And fear is the most helpful trait of those who want to appear brave. Being afraid is a part of everyday life. And every night of life also. It’s a permanent part of humanity for good reason. Remaining safe is a fundamental tenet of staying alive. Coupling being brave with fear is not the oddest of ideas. They just aren’t paired together regularly enough. The shaking that accompanies moving forward with endurance might appear as a weakness. It makes you wonder how soldiering got to be so popular if the parties engaged in it knew how bloody awful it was going to feel. But if the command is accepted in the head and heart to display interest in quieting a quivering lip or marching forward for the right reason, there is no turning back. Acceptance of fear as the partner in the quest inspires the brave front. Think about the adage about falling off a horse. If getting over the fear of returning to the saddle can be met, the ride will get smoother.
Take Five
Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.
- What are you in fear of right this moment?
- Can you list your greatest fears?
- What act of bravery are you most proud of?
- What makes up a brave heart?
- If it takes fear to be brave, what can you do differently?
Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
