Ordinary Fit

It’s kinda snug

Everybody is doing it

A key component of being an ordinary human being is fitting in. There are disclaimers that call this lazy or keeping up with the trends. Absolutely possible. But fitting in wherever you roam may keep you safe at times. Think about middle school. The bullies rule at times. This age is plagued by comments about height, weight, brains, physical attributes and likeability. Becoming an adult shields some humans from some physical standards but doesn’t remove the silent judging. This is where knowing your place works at its highest level. Invisibility doesn’t always kick in as a superpower. Which leaves humans with the next best skill. Fitting in. It feels comfortable. Slinking around at work allows for more chances of seeing what everyone else is capable of and adapting your strategy. That’s not a bad habit but those who master it don’t always get noticed for promotions either. So, choosing wisely when to settle into a life niche takes some practice. Sometimes just bursting out in minor ways boosts confidence enough to encourage more squirming and loosens the grip to discourage trying to squeeze back into a spot that now feels too tight. Consider where you attempt to fit in in life. It will guide your eye to areas that you may feel safe to try on the next size up.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. Where do you fit in best?
  2. How much impact can you have in the background?
  3. How do you feel when you are eclipsed by someone else?
  4. Do you think about creating strategies for your life?
  5. Do you want to know how to show off more?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
