Ordinary Life

Born to live

Just hold on

If you are thinking this is going to be just another year, stop that thought. Humans are not meant to be complacent. Or breathe without thought. A new year, new you is not the goal this time. Counterproductively, that might involve others. It’s time to focus on your present self. You may already be doing stuff that came under the heading of self-care. Think about it. That was partially for others also. To break out of that cycle, let’s just stop and rest here a minute. No rushing into this year. This is the hardest part. That turn of the calendar gets us all excited about possibilities and once that infiltrates our minds, the whistle blows, and we are off. Not. This. Year. Please sit back for five. Close your eyes. There is a gentle side of you that needs attention. Starting slowly is a good way to get used to letting the world revolve around you. Returning to this skill will provide different results each time.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. Check out your breathing. Is it deep or shallow? Do your shoulders rise up or does your tummy puff out?
  2. When you close your eyes, what color do you see? Is it a favorite or is it connected to a memory?
  3. Look in the mirror. What shape are your eyes? Describe the colors of each eye.
  4. When you are comfortably seated, can you hear the sounds of your body?
  5. Is it possible to sit in silence for one minute, two minutes or three minutes?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of each activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.

Live Alive.
