Ordinary Market

Stall shopping

What do you call that?

There are many ways to present ourselves. Our outside lives are like a market. All on display but every stall is a different one of our outside selves. Yep, there are many yous. The one you are with your family is not your worker you. The one you are at the gym or the grocery or the crochet studio or the bookstore are still you but different. There are so many yous. Think of yourself as a market. Each stall is a different dimension of you. If you can describe yourself with this analogy, what do your stalls look like? Hopefully, there are colorful foods to show off your showy side. A little farther along in the market will be the stalls that need a little more explanation. The message of each stall is not a mystery to you but if not clearly on display might take others a little longer to figure out. That’s where some clarity can be lost. The more someone needs to work on figuring out who you are, the less likely they are to want to try to do so. When we make understanding difficult, barriers build up. It’s like having a lot of indescribable stuff on display in your market but others feeling a little funny about asking questions about what they are looking at. Think about your marketing plan. Making signs that are easy to comprehend creates better business.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. Do you like to shop?
  2. What are you selling about yourself?
  3. How do you feel when you walk around someone else’s market?
  4. How can you break down your own barriers?
  5. What do you want to add to your market?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
