Stuck on zero

What is the reading?

Humans have their own built-in thermostats. Depending on the day or night, the body switches from hot to cold to cool to just right to very wrong. The environment outside of the flesh doesn’t adjust to the human. The human must give in to the outside temperature. That is the same with our attitude meter. Throughout the day and night, my attitude sways in tune to what is going on around me and what my thoughts are supplying. The trick is pausing long enough to read my meter and see what is producing the current attitude. Those little inconveniences that occur throughout the day are irritations that move the needle a little downward. A good meal or a pleasant smile might result in an upward gain. But that doesn’t tell me what the attitude is. That takes some examination. The looksee is advisable because knowing what supplies the new reading can then be replicated or kept from occurring again. It’s those known knowns that tell the tale. Sometimes I think of my attitude as music. The higher keys on my piano can be light and frothy and those deep dark keys can signal one of my internal storms that leave me soaking and miserable. I don’t mind the moody sounds if I choose them. But like most humans, I have to put up with the sound of my own life and appreciate the variety that is available to me just for having the right equipment.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. Do you have an internal meter?
  2. What are you trying to avoid when your wires get crossed?
  3. How do you go about ensuring that your attitude gets checked?
  4. How can you break your meter’s worth?
  5. What do you do to unplug from your internal thoughts?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
