Just a two step
Dance with your own stars
Think about the way you walk. It might be a shuffle early in the morning, a long glide when taking a regular walk, reluctant pacing when waiting for something to happen or a tired creep to bed at night. They are your moves, your dance moves. They may not appear to be dances but the flow of movement we engage in throughout each day is like a never-ending recital. If you took part in any elementary school show, you know what this all looks like to the casual observer. Missed steps, lost steps, steps taken too quickly or steps that are slower than everyone around you mean something to you. You judge yourself like a NY Times critic. You may be convinced that no one wants to see your dance technique. You are probably right. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t practice becoming better. If you can accept the fact that this never-ending quest can be set to music, you can really amp it up with your favorite choices. Remember that it takes courage to go on one of those shows and compete. And if you take a moment to check, you will realize that you are already on stage now.
Take Five
Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.
- How do you feel about your ability to walk and dance through life?
- If you isolate your ability to walk at one point of each day, how would you describe it?
- Are you arriving or departing each room?
- What songs encourage you to move your feet?
- Could you put on some music each morning to dance your way through getting ready?
Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
Live Alive.
