Ordinary Past

There is lots to learn

Powerful past

It’s not easy to give up what has already happened because it is familiar. It has also often been reviewed to such a degree that it remains in our present mind. All humans get to have a past. Most humans get a future for a while. The trick is trying to stay in the present. This fact of being what is called mindful is repeated with such rapidity that its meaning has diminished. Tools make us vulnerable with overuse. Relying on something outside of our true selves is not practical in the long run. But it can be quick. Humans like expeditious uses of time because we value time. Future time mostly. Ahead of us lies that unknown expanse full of possibilities. But the past had those same boundaries that we lived within. The reflection that occurs should inspire hope. The magic occurs when the past is not seen as anything but a gentle guide to this moment of presence. Stopping to absorb and be grateful to that which taught us the lessons we required to keep living will bring up past errors and past people we mistakenly chose to include in our lives, but they gave us powerful instructions. The hard part is holding on through the whole process. Stay steady. Something is coming.

Take Five

Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.

  1. How often do you think about the past?
  2. Do you have dreams about your future?
  3. Where are you presently?
  4. Do you view your past as a class?
  5. Is your future sensible?

Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.

Live Alive.
