Take your time
I can’t keep track
In a world fueled by tap-to-refresh and instant gratification, patience might seem like a relic. Outdated. Optional. Maybe even naive. But beneath its quiet surface, patience carries power. It’s the gentle art of not interrupting yourself. Of waiting—not because you have to, but because you choose to. It’s what happens when you trust that not everything meaningful comes quickly. Patience is what gives space for growth. For healing. For ideas to simmer before they’re served. It’s that extra breath you take before reacting. It’s the grace you give someone when they’re not at their best. It’s the long look at something you’ve seen a hundred times and still find beautiful. And yes, patience is uncomfortable. It asks us to sit with uncertainty, with silence, with our own unmet expectations. But it also offers something rare: peace. The kind that doesn’t depend on outcomes. The kind that invites presence over performance. So today, practice patience as an act of courage. Let someone take longer than they should. Give your plans more room to unfold. Be okay with the in-between. Because sometimes, what you’re waiting for isn’t as important as who you become while waiting.
Take Five
Each week this year, read through the suggestions and see how they call out to you.
- What are you patiently waiting for?
- What is behind your need to wait?
- What regularly pauses you?
- How can you practice putting others first?
- What type of peace do you want?
Come back each day to see if something changes about the effect of an activity. Repeat choices to identify different thoughts. You are not the same person every day. Your life shouldn’t be either.
