Ordinary Priorities

That doesn’t matter

Clear the clutter

Sometimes, life piles up around us. It is easy to say to eliminate some tasks or simplify a schedule but difficult to actually do. And perhaps unneeded. When subtraction doesn’t fit the equation, addition might. It’s new math. Creating more in life can also expand time. If there is something that piques an interest, fit it in. Listening to a new band, trying out a sport, selecting a food on the menu that isn’t the same old choice or being courageous enough to speak to someone new to seek more friends all results in increasing a lifetime. Life has its own time. Probably not the same as the one displayed on a phone. Commitments are hard to slim down, but enriching time doesn’t feel like overextending it. When you choose to treat your regular schedule as if it works for you, finding ways to poke holes for new options starts to feel as necessary as the weekly trek to the grocery store. If you eat every day, meals don’t become burdens. They can be possibilities. Divesting yourself of doing things the same old way may start to pop up in other ways. Being willing to add to the agenda might seem like personal progress, even self-care. Think about adding something interesting to your life as an obligation.

Superfluous Me

Option #1: When did you last add to your schedule by choice?

Option #2: Can you feel overwhelmed just because you think you should?

Option #3: What newness can you add today?

That’s it. After you choose the option that best describes expanding your schedule to you, take a few minutes to describe why you chose that option and what action, if any, may come next.
