Many versions

There are as many sides of each of us as necessary. No one has the real version of any of us on speed dial. Each version we demonstrate meets the needs of others. Warm, cold, silly, smart, persistent, lost or any other of thousands of versions can exist. Each is the point of view of someone else. Each human defines themselves. Even our mirror rarely reflects our exact brand. We see what we want to see with the same precision that everyone else does. Shaping or shapeshifting what we allow out of the box for others to make up their minds about is the hallmark of being a human. We want others to think a certain way at specific times about us. That is perfectly acceptable. Best foot forward, of course. But who are we to ourselves? Are we a static version or a blend of many sides that can live up to the myriad of situations we want to find ourselves in? Authenticity gets kicked around like it is an easy thing to accomplish. But being genuine isn’t. This is like defining your physical shape over and over. It is doubtful that your weight and height remain exactly the same every day in life. But you are still the same person who put on the same raincoat when the weather was overcast last week and this week. It is not as important for others to decide who you are. It is better for you to make that choice. How you show who you are gets easier after that.

Have you gotten taller?

Option #1: Do you think others see you how you want them to?

Option #2: Can you change the everyday version of you?

Option #3: What can you do to appear more genuinely yourself?

That’s it. After you choose the option that best describes how you look to others, take a few minutes to describe why you chose that option and what action, if any, may come next.
