Little white lies
Generally, it’s not a great description since it has been overused to the point of exhaustion. It works well as a polite rejoinder for some folks who really don’t want to discuss anything at the time. It might be used as a way to say get lost. Move on, basically. It creates a boundary better than most armies can build. If there was a mandatory sound pause that occurred prior to this statement, it might be followed by a different phrase. A momentary break in our usual answer pattern could interrupt the loop. Better yet, what would happen if it was illegal to use this throwaway line? This is emotional shorthand at its best. It might be fun to unpack it a little more and determine how much can be hidden in these little words. This could become a mantra of sorts to help remind us of our inner needs. Sitting gently with the thought that I am fine gives me some hope and could be very useful on repeat when I need a reminder to self-soothe. I don’t have to spill the beans with everyone else. But for my own sake, checking on my own ability to be fine is a simple task. No confessions, no corrections, just a subtle method to take an ordinary line and give it a better life.
You are Extraordinary!
Week 36: Hold my place
How we really feel is important to many humans in our lives. But it’s not the first thing on everyone else’s bingo card. This is a difficult habit to break since it has become etched in stone as a polite way to speak to others. Other cultures use different methods usually based on hospitality and whether a meal has been consumed yet. I kinda like that way. My task is to use something more meaningful at least 10 times a week to break the silence with my colleagues and friends. It will take them off guard but be fun. And maybe I will get some new information about them if I ask a question that they weren’t expecting. Wish me luck.
