Messy Middle

Hidden everywhere

The best sweet treats are a lot like you and me. The inside is the best part. There is a fast realization somewhere between the time you spilled your coffee and remembering that you forgot what you were supposed to remember when you think to yourself that this can’t be it. Not dramatically, just quietly, you sigh and hope no one heard your thought. We are taught by gurus that something will arrive with clarity and purpose. It glows so you recognize it. And then you see the laundry that still needs to be folded and the pillows that would never get you into a magazine. But this is life. And we keep showing up. Life can lack cinematic moments, and the soundtrack isn’t one you will hum tomorrow. Life is mostly in-between. It’s those conversations you have on long car rides, over late-night pizza and bringing home your favorite cereal from childhood. The messy middle squishes so it doesn’t pinch. It feels very real. It prompts you to send a sweet text for no good reason, to order a new specialty coffee and bake a cake from scratch just to do it. It’s our real life. Sing along if you know the words.

You are Extraordinary!

Week 33: The middle moves

Part of being ordinary is accepting that we are all extraordinary. Our insides slide around but are delicious. That outer facade that is holding us together might not be totally real. I think you know what I mean. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is good to note. Our clothes represent us and give other humans something to connect with or judge unacceptable. It’s part of the game of living. I hug my middle parts because they are all me. If you have ever tried to determine the flavor of a dessert without any clue to what is in its core, you now know that it is amazing to have this hidden middle that is all you.
