Scientists apparently don’t know how we fall asleep or how we wake up without an alarm. Yet, we all do it constantly. It boggles the mind that insomnia could be cured if this became a priority. Most nights I fall asleep pretty quickly. I might wake up a little along the way to roll over and change sides or take a sleepy walk to the loo. I can do that almost sleeping. And I dream. Most of us dream even when we can’t remember them. Oddly, I can remember many of them. Especially the parts right before I wake up. They aren’t nightmares. But they are steeped in places I have never been, don’t want to go, can’t recall who those humans are that I am with and they disappear like gossamer quickly after I try to pinpoint them. Sometimes I think about them the next night if I want to return. That doesn’t usually happen though. Dreaming is a mystery I visit often. It is easy to see the correlation between something I am reading or watching right before bed. But when I dream about the circus and never plan on attending one, a mystery sinkhole opens up. But I still like to have access to my dreams. I am not one to keep a little pad on the nightstand to make notes about them. I want them to stay right where they live. Somewhere in time in my mind. This way, I can be surprised by their stories.
You are Extraordinary!
Week 31: Dream on
Dreams can be anxiety creators when difficulties creep into our lives. I try to acknowledge that my mind is trying its best to work through something, but I don’t like nightmares. I also don’t like horror movies. They are like popcorn for my dark shadows. I will continue to try to enjoy what I can from my nightly adventures. If you can slink along with some dreams that bring you a smile of curiosity, keep them close. If you can give away the ones that scare you, do that also. Not all dreams are wishes.
